My 5 Favourite Female Artists of 2020

I’ve very recently rediscovered an all female artist Spotify playlist I made in January and naturally have started listening to it again. After getting my Wrapped, I’ve been thinking about my favourite female artists of this year…

Sasha Sloan

This year has been one big sad girl summer and Sasha Sloan has been the perfect soundtrack to 2020. I kicked off my year listening to her Self Portrait EP and I’m finishing it with her debut album, Only Child. Sasha Sloan’s album is nothing but complete emotional truth and is an album anybody can resonate with.

My favourite song: House With No Mirrors

Hayley Williams

Hayley Williams embarked on a solo career this year, following Paramore’s hiatus and her split from her husband. She released Simmer earlier this year which explores the specific types of abuse she’s dealt with over the years. Her album, Petals For Armour, was also written as a way to process her emotions. I have always been in complete awe of Hayley Williams and this year has just shown why.

My favourite song: Pure Love

Orla Gartland

Orla Gartland hasn’t brought out a single bad track this year and she’s released loads. Her EP Freckle Season feels like a masterpiece, I’ve completely fallen in love with her this year. She started gaining more popularity after the song Did It To Myself was featured in the TV series Normal People (a series I also loved!)

My favourite song: Heavy

Halsey

I’ve been a Halsey fan since I was 14 and I’m now the same age as she was when she released her debut EP, Room 93. I still adore her and of course have obsessively listened to Manic since its release in January. The album’s raw and autobiographical –– its a real insight into everything Halsey has dealt with since Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.

My favourite song: 3am

Miley Cyrus

She’s managed to slip onto this list after recently stepping into her rock era. She won over the internet following her cover of Heart of Glass. Soon after that she released Plastic Hearts which is an absolutely iconic album, start to finish.

My favourite song: Edge of Midnight (Midnight Sky Remix)
